ISLAMABAD : Prof. Cheng Xizhong, Senior Research Fellow at the Charhar Institute, highlighted that Pakistan’s main security challenge comes from cross-border terrorist attacks from Afghanistan, threatening its sovereignty and civilians. He emphasized that Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts are lawful defensive measures, reflecting its sacrifices as a frontline state in the global fight against terrorism. Despite external shocks, high security costs, and global economic uncertainties, Pakistan has achieved steady economic stabilization with international support and continues structural reforms for sustainable development. Prof. Cheng noted Pakistan’s role as a constructive regional actor, promoting dialogue, de-escalation, and peaceful diplomacy, and stressed that its stability and prosperity are vital for regional development, trade, connectivity, and global peace.
