On World Children’s Day 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to protecting children’s rights and providing quality education.
The national celebrations focus on ensuring welfare and participation of children under the global theme ‘My Day, My Rights’.
PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to working with the global community to enhance children’s welfare, rights, and education. He noted that the future of nations depends on the development and education of children and stressed the importance of international cooperation.
He also said the government is implementing a comprehensive strategy for the mental and physical development, protection, and education of children. Projects like the Danish School Project, support under the Benazir Income Support Program, and educational scholarships were praised as steps toward this goal.
The prime minister reaffirmed that providing education is the government’s primary responsibility, noting the ongoing education emergency aimed at ensuring school access for every child. He emphasized that coordinated efforts among government institutions are crucial for meaningful progress.
President Zardari highlights moral and legal duty
President Asif Ali Zardari called the protection of children’s rights both a legal and moral obligation. He urged parents, civil society, and media to actively participate in safeguarding children’s future.
The president noted Pakistan’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and underscored that the Constitution guarantees fundamental rights for children. Strong laws, child protection units, and service centers have been established to prevent exploitation and ensure welfare.
Global theme: ‘My Day, My Rights’
Both leaders highlighted this year’s global theme, which emphasizes the voice of children. President Zardari stressed the importance of including children in decisions affecting their lives, reinforcing that child welfare requires collective action by the state and society.
