Renowned Odia playback singer Humane Sagar, whose voice shaped a generation of music lovers, passed away on November 17 at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. His untimely death at just 34 has left Odisha in deep mourning as tributes pour in from top leaders, artists, and fans.
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan issued heartfelt condolence messages.
Governor Kambhampati wrote on X that he was “deeply saddened,” adding that Sagar’s contribution to Odia music and cinema “will always be remembered.”
Chief Minister Majhi called the loss “irreparable” and prayed for peace for the departed soul.
Union Minister Pradhan said Odisha had “lost a shining star,” noting that Sagar’s magical voice would remain “immortal” in the hearts of listeners.
Former CM and BJD leader Naveen Patnaik also mourned the singer, describing his music as “soulful” and cherished by countless fans.
Health decline, hospitalisation
Sagar had been undergoing treatment for several weeks at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after being admitted on October 14 in critical condition. His health continued to deteriorate despite intensive care.
Doctors diagnosed him with multiorgan dysfunction syndrome, acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), bilateral pneumonia, dilated cardiomyopathy, severe LV systolic dysfunction, acute kidney injury, refractory shock, severe respiratory failure, encephalopathy, thrombocytopenia, and coagulopathy.
AIIMS confirmed that he passed away at 9:08 pm on November 17, stating he “did not respond to treatment in spite of all aggressive and advanced care.”
Last social media post resurfaces
Soon after the news broke, fans revisited Sagar’s November 7 Instagram reel, recorded inside a radio studio, where he performed “Bhagya Rekha.” The comments section quickly filled with messages like “RIP,” “Gone too soon,” and “Miss you.”
For many, the clip served as the singer’s final connection with his audience—a reminder of his passion for music even as his health declined.
Two days before Sagar’s death, former CM Naveen Patnaik had posted a message praying for his recovery, writing, “Concerned to know that popular singer Humane Sagar is hospitalized. Pray for his swift and complete recovery.”
Born in Titlagarh, Bolangir district, Humane Sagar rose to fame with the title track of ‘Ishq Tu Hi Tu’, composed by Abhijit Majumdar. His emotional depth and expressive range quickly made him one of Odisha’s most sought-after playback singers.
Over his career, he recorded hundreds of film songs and delivered hit albums, including Niswasa, Bekhudee, Tuma Otha Tale, and Chehera (2017). He also released a Hindi album titled Mera Yeh Jahan.
Fans across Odisha took to social media to share memories and tributes, with many of his songs trending online as listeners revisited his legacy.
Final rites in native village
Following his passing, Sagar’s body was taken to his native village, Denga near Titilagarh in Bolangir district, where his last rites are scheduled to be performed.
The Odia music industry continues to mourn the loss of a voice that touched millions and left an indelible mark on regional cinema and music.
