Apple is reportedly preparing a major shift in its product launch cycle, with the upcoming iPhone Air and iPhone 18 lineup expected to debut in March 2027, instead of the company’s traditional fall release window.
The update comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who says the new timing reflects Apple’s long-term plan to split launches across spring and fall.
According to the report, Apple plans to unveil the iPhone Air 2—a tentative name—together with the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
This marks a significant shift, as the company’s flagship iPhones typically arrive in September.
The launch adjustment appears to align with a broader internal strategy rather than delays alone.
Why Apple’s launch timeline is shifting
Earlier this year, a report from The Information revealed that the next iPhone Air model could face delays until 2027 due to underwhelming sales of the current version. That report also claimed Apple was planning a dual-camera system—an upgrade from the single camera—on the next iPhone Air.
However, Gurman says the spring release fits within Apple’s intention to split its iPhone launches into two major waves each year. He expects this pattern to continue “for the next few years,” with Apple introducing five to six new models annually.
For now, it remains unclear whether Apple will hold two large launch events or continue its quieter approach for early-year models, such as the SE and ‘e’ series.
What to expect from next iPhone Air
Gurman shared a few early details about the 2027 iPhone Air, suggesting the biggest upgrade will be the move to a 2-nanometer chip, promising improved performance and significantly better battery life.
Despite earlier reports, he expressed uncertainty about the rumored second rear camera, calling the idea “strange.”
The 2027 ‘anniversary’ iPhone
Alongside the Air lineup, Apple is also working on a special “anniversary” iPhone, expected to launch in fall 2027.
According to the report, this device may feature:
- a curved, full-glass display
- under-display selfie camera, removing the notch or Dynamic Island entirely
The model is expected to commemorate a major milestone in the iPhone’s history.
