The iPhone 17 series is receiving glowing reviews and strong sales, but early buyers are flagging a possible durability concern.
Reports suggest certain color options, particularly the Deep Blue iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max and the Space Black iPhone Air, may be unusually prone to scratching.
According to Bloomberg, several iPhone 17 owners have noticed visible marks within days of use. Many scratches appear on the glass panel beneath the camera block, with some photos also showing wear on the camera housing.
A viral post on X by @amisecured highlighted the issue, sparking debate among buyers who had just received their new devices.
Darker colours more vulnerable
Feedback so far indicates that darker finishes, like Deep Blue and Space Black, are the most affected. Lighter shades in the lineup appear to hide or resist scratches better.
Adding to concerns, some users say MagSafe accessories also leave noticeable marks on these models, even with normal use.
Should you worry?
While the scratches are frustrating for those affected, they remain cosmetic only and do not impact functionality. The extent of the problem is also unclear—it’s possible only a limited number of devices are affected.
Still, experts note that premium phones should always be protected. Using a case or skin may be especially important for those purchasing the darker iPhone 17 variants.
