Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, was facing calls to return to her former profession in acting after her Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan”, attracted criticism.
The second season of the lifestyle-inspired show has drawn a lukewarm response, with culture critics suggesting she may find greater success by returning to her Hollywood roots.
Mary McNamara, writing for the Los Angeles Times, delivered a harsh review that reignited discussion about Meghan’s career path. McNamara described the first season as difficult to watch, criticising the show’s content and tone. She acknowledged Markle’s personal difficulties but argued that her talents would be better used in acting.
Markle rose to international fame playing Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits before marrying Prince Harry in 2018. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the couple has focused on media and philanthropic projects through their Archewell foundation. However, their media ventures have encountered commercial challenges and criticism.
Despite reports that Meghan’s Netflix deal has been reduced to a ‘first look’ arrangement, opportunities remain in entertainment. McNamara suggested that Markle could find success again by pursuing acting roles more suited to her experience.
