Spotify has launched a new in-app Messages feature that allows listeners to share music, podcasts, and audiobooks directly with friends and family.
The rollout, starting this week, is available to both Free and Premium users worldwide.
How Spotify messages works
Millions of users already share Spotify tracks and playlists via Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok and other platforms. Messages now creates a dedicated space inside Spotify for these conversations, without removing external sharing options.

With Messages, users can:
Send songs, playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks in one-on-one chats.
React with emojis and text replies.
Access conversations by tapping their profile photo at the top of the app.
Accept or decline chat requests, block accounts, or opt out entirely in Settings.
Spotify will also suggest people to message based on past interactions, such as collaborative playlists, Jams, Blends, or family plan connections.
Boosting discovery for artists and podcasters
Spotify says the feature is designed to make content sharing more personal and to help new artists, writers and podcasters get discovered. By enabling word-of-mouth recommendations within small groups, the company hopes Messages will complement existing discovery tools.
The company emphasized that content and conversations will be encrypted in transit and at rest. Spotify will also deploy proactive detection tools to flag harmful or unlawful content, with human moderators reviewing user reports.
Spotify described this release as “a first step,” with plans to expand availability and add more functions in the coming months.
The launch follows the company’s recent announcement of another price hike, signaling Spotify’s push to both grow user engagement and increase revenue.
