Lahore continues to grapple with hazardous air pollution, as the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 236 around noon, placing it among the world’s most polluted cities, according to IQAir.
The reading recorded around noon on Tuesday showed a PM2.5 concentration of 236 micrograms per cubic metre, significantly exceeding the World Health Organization’s recommended air quality guidelines.
Earlier readings put pollution levels at 280 in Allama Iqbal Town, 233 in A block, Model Town, and 262 on Barki Road. Askari 10 recorded an AQI of 226, followed by Bedian Thethar Road at 224.
Medical experts have urged citizens to wear face masks outdoors and keep their homes and offices’ doors and windows closed to minimise exposure to polluted air.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast partly cloudy weather in Lahore today. The department expects the minimum temperature to reach 19 degrees Celsius and the maximum to reach 31 degrees Celsius.
