Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has praised the contribution of young and fringe players to the team’s victories in the recently concluded ODI tri-nation series.
Zaman, who scored a century in the final against Sri Lanka, said the team’s younger players had shown great fighting spirit and played an important part in its success. Speaking in an interview with PCB Digital, Zaman said his success in finals came from giving himself enough time at the crease. He added that pressure was greater in finals, making it important for batters to adapt their approach to the situation.
He said his usual role was to bat aggressively and make things easier for the batters who followed him. However, after Pakistan lost two early wickets against Sri Lanka in the final, he changed his approach and decided to spend more time at the crease.
Zaman heaps praise on Baig
The 36-year-old batter has lavished his praise on Saad Baig’s positive start to his innings, saying his attacking approach eased the pressure on him. He added that positive batting at the other end was particularly helpful when a player was struggling to score runs.
The Pakistan batter stressed that the confidence shown by the team management and captain in their players was equally important.
He said the young players had performed well in difficult circumstances during the tri-nation series, strengthening the confidence of senior members of the side.
Zaman said he was pleased that the younger players had not only performed well individually but had also played a vital role in the team’s victories.
