The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the roadmap for HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 12, opening the direct-signing window for all eight franchises ahead of the player auction scheduled for January 23, 2027.
According to the PCB, the tournament will run from March 18 to May 2, 2027, featuring 44 matches over 46 days across five to six venues.
The announcement marks the beginning of the player recruitment process, with franchises now able to begin assembling their squads for the 12th edition of Pakistan’s premier T20 league.
PSL 12 direct-signing window opens
The direct-signing window opened on October 23 and will remain available until November 23, 2026.
Under the announced rules, each franchise may directly sign one marquee player who did not feature in PSL 10 or PSL 11.
The PCB said a franchise workshop would be held the following week to finalise player-retention deadlines, the pre-auction trade window, auction rules and playing conditions.
The decisions are expected to shape squad-building strategies ahead of the January auction.
National T20 tournaments to feed PSL talent pipeline
The PCB has also aligned its domestic cricket calendar with the PSL pre-season cycle, identifying the National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments as key platforms for talent identification.
The competitions will provide domestic performers with a pathway into the PSL 12 player auction and potentially towards consideration for the national team.
The move aims to strengthen the link between domestic cricket and franchise-level competition.
PCB chairman outlines plans for expanded season
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the upcoming edition would build on the league’s recent momentum, with plans to take matches to more cities.
He said the roadmap would give franchises, players, commercial partners and broadcasters greater certainty as they prepare for the tournament.
PSL Chief Executive Salman Naseer said the planned expansion to five or six venues would bring the competition closer to fans across Pakistan and give more cities an opportunity to host matches.
He added that direct signings, trades and retention decisions in the coming weeks would play a key role in determining the squads for the 2027 season.
