The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has released the admission policy for public and private medical and dental colleges in Punjab for the 2026-27 academic session, outlining eligibility criteria, merit calculation, college preferences and fee requirements for prospective students.
Under the policy, passing the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is mandatory for admission to MBBS and BDS programmes. Candidates must also meet the prescribed academic requirements to qualify for consideration.
According to the admission policy, candidates’ merit will be calculated using three components: MDCAT scores will carry 50% weightage, FSc marks will account for 40%, and matriculation marks will contribute the remaining 10%.
Applicants must secure at least 60% marks in FSc to be eligible for admission to MBBS and BDS programmes.
The required subjects include biology and chemistry. In addition, candidates must have passed either physics or mathematics to meet the subject eligibility criteria.
Rules for selecting medical colleges
Candidates applying to public medical colleges in Punjab will be required to list their preferences for all public medical colleges.
However, applicants seeking admission to private medical colleges will face no limit on the number of colleges they can select as preferences.
The centralized admission process will be conducted by UHS for both public and private medical and dental colleges for the 2026-27 academic session.
Fee deadline and annual tuition
Under the announced policy, candidates selected for admission must deposit their fees within three working days of the release of the merit list.
The annual tuition fee for open-merit seats in public medical and dental colleges has been fixed at Rs50,000.
Prospective applicants are advised to review the eligibility requirements, merit formula, college preference rules and fee deadline before proceeding with their applications.
