Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah have been appointed as members of the Judicial Commission.
A notification confirming the appointments was issued following approval by Judicial Commission Chairman and Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.
The appointments come after Farooq H. Naek of the PPP and Aftab Sheikh of the PML-N resigned from their respective positions on the Judicial Commission.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Rana Sanaullah will now represent their respective political parties on the commission, following the approval and issuance of the official notification.
The Judicial Commission plays a key role in Pakistan’s judicial appointment process. The latest appointments come as the commission continues its work under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.
On Thursday, the government had decided in principle to reshuffle its representation in the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), with Bilawal and Rana Sanaullah being considered for membership.

Bilawal Bhutto has been appointed as a member from the National Assembly, replacing PML-N’s Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, while Rana Sanaullah is the commission’s member from the Senate, replacing PPP’s Farooq H. Naek.
Sources said the decision to change the government members was reached through mutual consultation among the government and allied parties. The proposed appointments would alter the composition of the government’s representation in the Judicial Commission and establish a new setup following the change in members.
Sources said the formal procedures required for changing the government’s representatives will be completed through the relevant parliamentary forums.
The commission is also scheduled to meet on October 13 to consider the extension of constitutional benches in the Sindh High Court.
