Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the two officials discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments.
Dar underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and sustained engagement in promoting regional peace and stability, the ministry said in a post on X.
“Both sides agreed to remain in close contact,” the Foreign Ministry added.
Pakistan stresses dialogue and diplomacy
The meeting comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic engagement with Iran and other regional countries amid tensions in the Middle East.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has previously said Dar has remained in contact with Araghchi and other foreign ministers as part of Islamabad’s efforts to promote dialogue and de-escalation in the region.
The ministry has described Pakistan as committed to facilitating diplomatic engagement and encouraging a peaceful resolution of regional disputes.
Continued Pakistan-Iran engagement
Dar and Araghchi have maintained contact through diplomatic channels in recent months.
In August, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the two foreign ministers discussed regional and international developments, as well as efforts to promote peace and stability.
