The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finalized Barrister Iftikhar Gilani as its candidate for prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as consultations on forming the new government enter the final stage.
An important meeting on AJK government formation was held at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad, where senior PML-N leaders discussed the upcoming election for the prime minister and plans for the new administration.
PML-N President Nawaz Sharif nominated Barrister Gilani for AJK premier and also directed him to submit his nomination papers. Earlier, differences had emerged within the party over the nomination, with the names of Shah Ghulam Qadir and Barrister Gilani being considered for the position.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is scheduled to elect the new prime minister on August 28. The meeting at the Prime Minister’s House focused on important matters related to the formation of the new PML-N government in AJK.
Senator Rana Sanaullah and Khawaja Saad Rafique attended the consultation, along with key AJK PML-N figures. PML-N Azad Kashmir president Shah Ghulam Qadir and former AJK prime minister Raja Farooq Haider were also present.
