Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday laid a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of China’s revolutionary struggle.
The prime minister, who was accompanied by his delegation members, including federal ministers and senior officials, was received with full ceremonial honours at the historic site.
The national anthems of Pakistan and China were played before the prime minister laid the wreath featuring Pakistan’s national flag-themed floral arrangement.
Tiananmen Square, located in the heart of Beijing, holds immense historical and political significance as the site where Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949. The Monument commemorates the revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives for China’s independence and liberation.
The prime minister is currently on a four-day official visit to China along with a high-level delegation to meet the country’s leadership to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.
