Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that progress is being made in negotiations with the United States owing to Pakistan’s efforts.
He said events in the Strait of Hormuz made it clear that there was no military solution to a political crisis. He cautioned that the United States should not be drawn back into a quagmire at the behest of others, and advised the United Arab Emirates to remain cautious in view of the regional situation.
He added that “Project Freedom” was, in reality, “Project Deadlock”.
Separately, the United Arab Emirates reported a serious escalation in regional tensions after intercepting multiple missiles and drones allegedly launched from Iran.
The situation prompted nationwide air defence activity and emergency alerts.
A drone strike also caused a fire at an oil facility in Fujairah.
The UAE’s Defence Ministry confirmed that its air defence systems were responding to incoming missile and drone attacks.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry said the systems intercepted ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones targeting various parts of the country.
Officials said that sounds heard across several areas were linked to ongoing interception operations.
