Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has strongly rejected claims circulating in Afghan media regarding an alleged attack in Kunar province.
The reports, attributed to Tolo News, included accusations of a strike on Jamaluddin Afghan University and nearby residential areas.
Officials in Islamabad have termed the allegations baseless and part of misinformation efforts aimed at creating unrest.
Afghan media claims and allegations
Afghan media outlet Tolo News claimed that a Pakistani attack took place in Kunar province.
The reports alleged that Jamaluddin Afghan University and surrounding residential areas were targeted in the incident. It further claimed that 3 people were killed and 45 others were injured.
These claims were strongly rejected by Pakistan’s Ministry of Information, which described them as completely false and misleading.
Ministry rejects “baseless propaganda”
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a firm response, stating that no attack took place on Jamaluddin Afghan University or nearby civilian areas.
Officials called the allegations a “complete lie” and an attempt to gain sympathy through fabricated narratives.
They further stated that such reports are designed to incite hatred and spread misinformation against Pakistan.
Claims of Coordinated Misinformation Campaign
According to the ministry, the Afghan government and media narratives are relying on misinformation and incitement strategies.
Officials alleged that these narratives follow patterns influenced by what they described as false and misleading propaganda practices.
They also claimed that such narratives are sometimes amplified by external media channels, further distorting facts and increasing tensions.
The ministry emphasized that these false claims are part of a broader attempt to create distrust and confusion in the region.
Pakistan’s position
The ministry clarified Pakistan’s position on cross-border security operations, stating that any action against terrorist infrastructure on Afghan soil will be officially announced.
Officials stressed that Pakistan accepts responsibility for all its actions and ensures transparency in security-related matters.
They further stated that if there is concrete evidence of terrorist support or infrastructure, it will be shared through official channels.
The Ministry of Information Fact Check unit reiterated that all allegations must be supported with verified and credible evidence.
It warned that spreading unverified claims only deepens mistrust between both sides and worsens the information environment.
Pakistan reaffirmed that it will continue to respond through official, documented, and verified channels, particularly in matters related to security and cross-border threats.
