Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while taking part in a deliberation with his fellow deputies from the delegation of Jiangsu Province at the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress, China’s national legislature.
After listening to the deputies’ presentations, Xi said developing new quality productive forces is essential to promoting high-quality development and strengthening economic competitiveness, urging Jiangsu to take the lead in this regard.
He called for promoting the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent, and striving to achieve new breakthroughs in strengthening original innovation and tackling key core technologies.
He urged efforts to create new prospects in optimizing and upgrading traditional industries, cultivating and expanding emerging industries, and proactively planning for future industries.
Noting that major provincial economies with a solid foundation and strong resilience against external shocks can help to stabilize the overall national economy, Xi urged Jiangsu to enhance economic resilience, fully integrate into the unified national market, expand high-standard opening up and explore the global market.
Chinese modernization is the modernization of common prosperity for all, he stressed, calling on the province to actively address questions such as how to achieve high-quality and sufficient employment, how to increase the income of urban and rural residents, and how to further improve the level of basic public services and social security.
