Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed self-reliance in science and technology, hailing it as the “key” in building China into a great modern socialist country.
Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks when he visited an information technology (IT) innovation park in Beijing.
At the park, he learned about IT application and innovation and was briefed on Beijing’s efforts to expedite the development of an international sci-tech innovation center.
He also inspected a display of sci-tech innovation outcomes, and spoke with researchers and heads of sci-tech enterprises.
Xi stressed the need to give full play to the country’s strength of being able to mobilize resources to accomplish major endeavors, pool high-quality resources to tackle key challenges and speed up efforts to address prominent weaknesses so as to achieve China’s strategic goals.
