ISLAMABAD (DI NEWS) :The federal government has appointed Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil, a senior officer of the Information Group in grade twenty one, as the new Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting. The Cabinet Secretariat’s Establishment Division issued the official notification stating that his posting has been made under Section ten of the Civil Servants Act nineteen seventy three and will remain in effect until further orders.
Before taking charge of this top administrative position, Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil was serving as the Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. His professional journey reflects decades of experience in Pakistan’s information service and a significant contribution to the country’s media landscape.
Throughout his career, Khalil has held several key assignments. He served as Director General of the Press Information Department in Peshawar, where he worked on government communication and media coordination. He has also worked at Pakistan’s Embassy in Tokyo in the role of Press Counsellor, representing the country’s media interests and strengthening information exchange abroad.
His portfolio includes important positions at the Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, and the Information Service Academy. These postings have given him extensive exposure to print media, electronic media, regulatory affairs, and training of information service personnel.
In recent years, he has taken particular interest in modernising Pakistan’s official media platforms. During a visit to the Radio Pakistan facility in Peshawar in September twenty twenty five, Khalil emphasised the need to revive the historical legacy of the national broadcaster by leveraging digital platforms and adapting to contemporary trends in communication.
His appointment as Federal Secretary comes at a crucial time when the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is expanding its role in media policy, digital communication, and public outreach. With his experience across regulatory bodies, diplomatic missions, and media institutions, Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil is expected to play an important role in guiding the ministry’s transition toward a more modern and digitally equipped information structure.
