Afghanistan sealed a clean sweep against Zimbabwe in the third and final Twenty20 International at Harare Sports Club on Sunday, edging the hosts by nine runs in a high-scoring encounter.
Afghanistan, who had already won the first two matches, elected to bat first after winning the toss. Their innings was anchored by Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who struck a powerful 92 from 48 balls, including eight fours and five sixes. Captain Ibrahim Zadran supported him with a steady 60 off 49 deliveries. Sediqullah Atal’s brisk unbeaten 35 from 15 balls helped Afghanistan post an imposing total of 210 for three.
Zimbabwe began their chase with determination. Brian Bennett hit 47 from 31 balls and captain Sikandar Raza kept his side in contention with a quickfire 51 from 29 balls, laced with seven boundaries and two sixes. Ryan Burl added 37 from 15 balls, but despite their efforts, Zimbabwe fell short, finishing on 201 all out from 20 overs.
For Afghanistan, Abdollah Ahmadzai led the bowling attack with three wickets for 42 runs, while Fazalhaq Farooqi and Fareed Ahmad each claimed two wickets. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi took one apiece. Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain the visitors, with Brad Evans taking two wickets for 33 runs.
The match concluded with Afghanistan winning the series 3–0. Gurbaz was named Player of the Match for his explosive innings, while captain Ibrahim Zadran received the Player of the Series award for consistent performances throughout the tour.
– Decisive batting –
Afghanistan’s batting strength proved decisive once again. The opening stand between Gurbaz and Zadran laid the foundation for a commanding total, while disciplined bowling in the final overs prevented Zimbabwe from reaching the target.
For Zimbabwe, Raza’s half-century and Burl’s late hitting offered resistance, but the loss of wickets at regular intervals halted their momentum. Despite fighting performances, the home side could not match Afghanistan’s consistency and composure.
