In a historic development for Pakistan-US trade relations, Pakistan has received its first-ever shipment of American West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, surpassing traditional imports of Brent and Arabian crude.
According to officials, the US crude oil cargo ship MT Pegasus has docked at Synergyco’s oil terminal at Hub, Balochistan — marking the largest crude oil vessel in Pakistan’s history to arrive at a domestic port.
The shipment, carrying one million barrels of WTI crude, represents a significant step forward in Pakistan’s energy import diversification following the new Pak-US tariff trade agreement.
Crude oil imports begin under new trade deal
Officials confirmed that crude oil imports from the United States have officially begun under the recently concluded Pak-US tariff trade agreement, which aims to boost bilateral energy and industrial cooperation.
The MT Pegasus departed from Houston, Texas, on September 14 and has now successfully berthed at Synergyco’s offshore terminal. The arrival symbolizes not only expanded trade relations but also Pakistan’s shift towards more competitive and diversified energy sourcing.
Energy company Synergyco has made history by becoming the first Pakistani company to import WTI crude oil from the United States. Company officials confirmed that two additional US crude oil ships are scheduled to arrive in November and early next year, continuing what could become a new energy trade trend between the two countries.
“This is a landmark moment for Pakistan’s energy sector and for our trade ties with the United States,” a Synergyco representative said, emphasizing the long-term benefits of accessing high-quality American crude.
The arrival of the MT Pegasus at Synergyco’s PSM Oil Terminal in Balochistan marks the largest crude oil shipment ever received by Pakistan. Officials said the successful docking reflects the country’s growing capacity to handle large-scale international oil carriers, a milestone for its energy logistics infrastructure.
