Google has acknowledged the ongoing performance concerns with the Pixel 10’s graphics and assured users that more GPU updates are on the way.
The company confirmed that improvements will arrive in upcoming system patches to boost overall gaming and visual performance.
Since before its launch, the Pixel 10 series has faced questions about its GPU performance, particularly during demanding gaming sessions. The phones use a PowerVR GPU designed by Imagination Technologies, which some users found underperforming compared to competitors.
Responding to a query from Android Authority, a Google spokesperson confirmed that GPU enhancements are already being worked on.
“We are continuing to improve driver quality in our monthly and quarterly system updates,” the spokesperson said. “The most recent September and October patch releases included driver improvements. In future releases we are planning further GPU driver updates.”
Upcoming Pixel drops to bring driver improvements
Google’s monthly and quarterly updates—often referred to as Pixel Drops—frequently introduce software enhancements and bug fixes. The next major Pixel Drop is expected in December, and users may see significant improvements in gaming and graphics performance by then.
These updates are particularly aimed at fixing lag and frame drops noticed in titles like Call of Duty Mobile, which reviewers and users have reported since launch.
Outdated GPU drivers may be cause
Performance issues with the Pixel 10 may partly stem from outdated GPU drivers. Reports indicate that Imagination Technologies released new drivers in August for the same PowerVR GPU used in the Pixel 10.
These updated drivers bring Android 16 compatibility and support for Vulkan 1.4, a graphics API designed to improve rendering efficiency and gaming visuals. However, Google has not yet rolled out these drivers to devices — a change that might be coming with the next few system updates.
What users can expect next
If Google delivers these GPU driver updates as promised, Pixel 10 users could see better stability, smoother gameplay, and improved rendering quality by the end of the year.
While day-to-day use of the Pixel 10 remains fast and responsive, gamers have reported subpar performance compared to rivals — an issue Google seems determined to fix.
