Russia has welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan following recent deadly border clashes, commending both countries for opting for dialogue and diplomacy over confrontation.
The truce, brokered by Qatar and Türkiye during talks in Doha on Sunday, has been hailed as a key step toward regional stability.
Moscow hails ceasefire
In a statement on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed Moscow’s strong support for the ceasefire, describing it as a “mutual agreement along the Afghan-Pakistani border” achieved through the mediation of Qatari and Turkish authorities.
“We welcome the agreement on a mutual ceasefire along the Afghan-Pakistani border, achieved between Kabul and Islamabad with the mediation of the Qatari and Turkish authorities,” Zakharova said.
She further emphasized that the decision by both sides to engage in dialogue and resolve their disputes peacefully “forms the basis for maintaining peace between the two countries, which are friendly to us, and serves as an important factor in ensuring regional security.”
Zakharova also called on Islamabad and Kabul to strengthen their cooperation, particularly in counterterrorism efforts, to ensure long-term peace and stability in the region.
Beijing echoes support for dialogue
On the other hand, In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun also welcomed the ceasefire agreement, reaffirming China’s support for continued dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He stated that China “welcomes the ceasefire agreement reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan” and supports ongoing efforts to “resolve differences, achieve a comprehensive and lasting truce, and maintain peace and stability in both countries and the wider region.”
Guo added that China views regional stability as a shared goal and supports diplomatic channels that reduce border tensions and promote cooperation between neighboring countries.
