Qatar has issued a stern warning in response to the latest Israeli attack on Doha, declaring that it will retaliate under any circumstances.
Speaking to Arab TV at the United Nations, a spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry stressed that Doha will not stand by silently in the face of aggression.
Qatar: ‘We will respond to Israeli attack’
The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson made it clear that Doha will not back down without responding to what it described as an attack on Qatar’s sovereignty. “We want to make it clear that we will respond to the attack on Qatar’s sovereignty,” the spokesperson said.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the matter, the spokesperson added, “It is trivial to say that we are angry about the Israeli attack.”
International engagement
According to the ministry’s statement, Qatar is actively engaging with allies around the world to coordinate a response. “We are in touch with our friends around the world,” the spokesperson said.
Ending Israel’s ‘lack of accountability’
The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed that Doha’s actions will aim at ending what it described as Israel’s long-standing lack of accountability. “We will end Israel’s lack of accountability,” the official declared, underscoring Qatar’s resolve.
On Sept 9, Israel launched an airstrike on a residential building in Doha, Qatar’s capital, during a consultation meeting of Hamas leaders. Hamas confirmed that the central leadership remained safe, but six people, including the son of Khalil al-Hayya, were martyred. Among the dead was also a Qatari security officer.
According to Al Jazeera, several powerful explosions were heard in a residential area of Doha in the afternoon, followed by smoke rising into the sky. Shortly afterwards, the Israeli military confirmed the attack on the Hamas meeting in Doha.
Hamas confirmed the death of six individuals and said the central leadership survived. It claimed the Israeli attack aimed to sabotage talks over a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
The Qatari prime minister had called for a “collective response” to Israel’s strike on Doha, warning that the entire Gulf region is now at risk.
Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said that Arab states are consulting on how to respond. “There is a response that will happen from the region. This response is currently under consultation and discussion with other partners in the region,” he said.
