The Punjab government is considering a proposal to waive registration and semester fees for students studying in public colleges and universities in flood-affected areas.
The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families hit hardest by the natural disaster.
Proposal for fee waiver
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that he has formally proposed the fee relief plan to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The proposal includes a complete waiver of registration and semester fees for students enrolled in government colleges and universities across the flood-hit regions.
“The final decision will be made after the approval of the chief minister of Punjab,” said Rana Sikandar, emphasizing that the step will directly benefit families struggling to recover from the devastating floods.
Relief to ease financial strain
According to the minister, waiving fees will help reduce the financial pressure on affected households, ensuring that students do not have to compromise on their education due to economic hardship.
He added that the Punjab government is committed to providing all possible support to affected students, enabling them to continue their education without interruption.
Call for private sector to step up
While the proposed relief will apply only to public colleges and universities, Rana Sikandar urged private schools, colleges, and universities to also extend similar support to students from flood-hit areas.
“Private educational institutions should also play their role and take steps to provide relief to the affected students,” he stressed.
