Pakistan has finalised its playing XI for today’s high-voltage Asia Cup match against India, with sources confirming that the national side is set to retain its winning combination from the opening game.
Playing XI finalised after team meeting
A key meeting between the Pakistan team management and captain Salman Ali Agha ended with a decision to stick to the current squad that played against Oman. After reviewing the pitch conditions, the captain and head coach Mike Hesson agreed that no changes were required for today’s clash.
Shaheen Afridi stays; Abrar Ahmed discussion held
During earlier consultations, there was consideration of resting Abrar Ahmed and Shaheen Shah Afridi. However, Captain Salman Ali Agha expressed full confidence in Shaheen Afridi, ensuring his inclusion.
There was also discussion about bringing Haris Rauf in place of Abrar Ahmed, but the team has opted to retain the spinner for now. Sources added that the playing XI could still be adjusted if pitch or weather conditions demand a late change.
Head coach’s advice to batters
Head coach Mike Hesson emphasized the importance of patience and composure for the batting lineup. He specifically advised Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub to play their natural game without succumbing to pressure in the high-stakes encounter.
Pakistan ready for high-stakes clash
With the playing XI finalized, Pakistan enters today’s Asia Cup showdown against India in Dubai with renewed confidence. Retaining the winning squad signals trust in the team’s balance, while management has urged players to stay focused and composed in what promises to be a thrilling contest.
Meanwhile, despite being the official host of the Asia Cup 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning an “invisible boycott” of Sunday’s high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan. According to Indian media reports, most senior BCCI officials will not attend the Group A fixture in Dubai, sparking fresh controversy.
No BCCI presence in UAE despite hosting
Four days into the tournament, no BCCI official has yet reached Dubai. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi unveiled the trophy and met with team captains, but Indian representation was notably absent.
Indian outlet Dainik Jagran reported that only one BCCI representative may attend the match, while top officials like BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, Treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia, and Joint Secretary Rohan Desai are unlikely to be present.
