Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will undertake an official visit to China from August 30 to September 4, 2025, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The visit, announced through an official press release by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), underscores the deep-rooted strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
During his stay, Prime Minister Sharif will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit in Tianjin. On the sidelines of the summit, he is scheduled to hold important bilateral meetings with President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. These engagements will focus on enhancing cooperation across multiple domains, including trade, investment, regional connectivity, and strategic coordination.
According to the MoFA press release, the two sides will also discuss progress on Phase-II of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), along with other regional and global developments of mutual interest. The visit aims to reaffirm mutual support on core national interests and further solidify the countries’ “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.”
A key highlight of the visit will be Prime Minister Sharif’s participation in a military parade in Beijing, being held to mark the 80th anniversary of the World’s Anti-Fascist War. The event will be attended by President Xi and other world leaders.
In addition to political engagements, the Prime Minister will also focus on strengthening economic ties. He is expected to interact with top Chinese business leaders and corporate executives to explore opportunities for expanding bilateral trade and investment. He will also address the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference in Beijing, where both sides will look to foster new business-to-business partnerships.
The Foreign Office described the visit as part of ongoing leadership-level exchanges between Islamabad and Beijing, reflecting the high importance both countries place on their strategic relationship. The visit is seen as a significant step toward deepening economic cooperation, regional connectivity, and coordination on global issues.
