Indian water release drowns Kartarpur Gurdwara in Narowal

The historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur –  one of the holiest Sikh religious sites –  has been hit by devastating floods after India released millions of cusecs of water into rivers flowing towards Pakistan.According to local reports, floodwaters have surrounded the Gurdwara complex, submerging its boundary walls and nearby areas.Around 200 to 300 people have been stranded in Kartarpur due to the ongoing floods. The Pakistan Army, in coordination with the local administration, has launched rescue and relief operations to ensure their safety.Troops are actively engaged in evacuating the affected residents, providing assistance, and making efforts to relocate them to safer areas.The sight has caused deep concern among the Sikh community worldwide, as Kartarpur holds immense religious and cultural significance.

Widespread destruction in Punjab

The latest flood situation has wreaked havoc across Punjab, where crops have been washed away, infrastructure has been damaged, and thousands of residents displaced.Authorities fear that if water levels continue to rise, the Kartarpur Corridor and its surrounding settlements could face severe and lasting damage.

Sikh community voices concern

Local residents and members of the Sikh community have appealed to the government of Pakistan, as well as international organizations, to take urgent steps to safeguard the Gurdwara.The fear of further rainfall and high-level floods, as predicted by the Meteorological Department, has intensified their worries.
