A leaked Israeli military intelligence database has revealed that, by May 2025, only 8,900 of those killed in Gaza were identified as combatants, according to the The Guardian.
The figures suggested that 83 per cent of the total fatalities — around 53,000 individuals — were civilians. The data points to a civilian death rate higher than that recorded in any modern conflict.
According to the report, this proportion surpasses those seen during atrocities in Rwanda, Srebrenica and Mariupol.
The figures were drawn from internal Israeli records and not previously made public. The leak sheds new light on the scale of civilian harm resulting from Israeli operations in Gaza.
