The 10th Great Wall Cup International Youth Football Invitational Tournament officially kicked off on August 14 in Beijing. Recognized as one of the highest-level youth football competitions, the event brought together eight top-tier U16 teams from China and abroad.
This year’s participating teams include Real Madrid CF (Spain), Sporting CP (Portugal), AJ Auxerre (France), Crvena Zvezda (Serbia), FC Dinamo Tbilisi (Georgia), Odi Akhmedov Football Academy (Uzbekistan), JEJU SK FC (Republic of Korea) and Beijing (China).
The six-day tournament will feature not only high-intensity matches but also a special Cultural Day, during which players will visit the Great Wall and enjoy a traditional Peking Opera performance. These activities offer young athletes an opportunity to experience Beijing’s rich cultural heritage in an immersive way, while naturally encouraging friendships and understanding among peers from different countries.
Since its inception in 2010, the tournament has been successfully held nine times. It serves as a platform to implement the Overall Plan for Football Reform and Development in Beijing, promote youth football, facilitate international exchange and showcase Beijing’s image as a “Dual Olympic City.”
