The Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom on Saturday condemned the recent “erroneous remarks” made by the Group of Seven (G7) regarding Hong Kong.
“The irresponsible remarks made by a small group of countries, including the UK, regarding the law enforcement actions of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) police constitute a gross interference in China’s internal affairs and the rule of law in the Hong Kong SAR. We strongly condemn such remarks,” said a spokesperson for the embassy.
The spokesperson made the remarks in response to the G7’s comments on Friday regarding the arrest warrants issued on July 25 by the Hong Kong Police Force against 19 absconded anti-China disruptors.
“We firmly support the Hong Kong SAR government in performing its duties in accordance with the law, and firmly support the Hong Kong police in taking law enforcement actions in accordance with the law,” said the spokesperson.
“The collusion of these countries to meddle in the rule of law in Hong Kong only further exposes their double standards and hypocrisy on issues of human rights and the rule of law,” the spokesperson said, adding that this will only strengthen the Hong Kong SAR government’s resolve to govern in accordance with the law and punish crime.
“We once again urge the relevant countries to stop fabricating excuses for shielding criminals and to cease interfering in China’s internal affairs,” said the spokesperson.
