Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review and enhance security arrangements for Chinese nationals residing and working in Pakistan, especially in the wake of recent security concerns.
The meeting, attended by federal and provincial security officials, focused on implementing special protection measures and improving the overall security framework for Chinese citizens across the country.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the prime minister on the comprehensive security strategy currently in place across the country. He said that all provinces and the federal government are working in close coordination to ensure maximum safety for Chinese workers, particularly those involved in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other strategic projects.
In view of the recent concerns of terrorism, special security arrangements are in force for Chinese residents, the minister noted, including security escorts while travelling. He also shared that cutting-edge surveillance systems, including Safe City-quality cameras, will be installed in all new residential and work projects associated with Chinese personnel.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that protecting Chinese citizens in Pakistan remains a top priority for the government, as several steps are being taken to make their security effective.
“Our friendship with China is rooted in history and mutual trust. CPEC is a transformative project for our economy, and its success hinges on the confidence of Chinese companies and citizens in our security environment,” he said.
He reiterated that the second phase of CPEC is underway, focusing on business-to-business cooperation and greater economic integration between the two nations. The PM directed authorities to ensure top-tier facilitation for Chinese nationals at airports and all entry points into the country.
“The Safe City initiatives across Pakistan are shining examples of our growing capabilities to secure not just our cities but also our international partners,” he remarked, calling for further strengthening of these projects in line with global standards.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to adopt proactive and collaborative measures to safeguard the lives and interests of Chinese citizens in Pakistan.
