In response to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has established a special subcommittee aimed at enhancing the efficiency and performance of Pakistan’s embassies overseas.
The newly-formed eight-member subcommittee will be led by Bilal Azhar Kayani, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA), who has been appointed as the convener. An official notification has already been issued regarding the committee’s formation.
The subcommittee is scheduled to hold its first meeting tomorrow, chaired by Kayani. Key members will include additional secretaries from various ministries, including Interior, Commerce, Finance, and Information and Broadcasting. Additionally, representatives from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Cabinet Division’s Institutional Reforms Cell will be part of the group.
One of the primary objectives of the subcommittee will be to assess the overall functioning, organizational structure, and challenges faced by Pakistani embassies around the world. The group will meet with Pakistani ambassadors individually to gather feedback and suggestions. They will also evaluate the political and economic contributions of these missions.
Furthermore, the subcommittee will scrutinize the work environment, staffing levels, and operational processes at embassies in various countries. Based on its findings, the group will propose reforms and recommend measures to improve embassy operations in alignment with Pakistan’s broader strategic goals.
The committee will also look at ways to assess the performance of diplomats and embassies, and may consult experts or diplomatic figures to ensure effective implementation of reforms.
Pakistani ambassadors abroad have been urged to offer full cooperation and support as the subcommittee embarks on this important review process.
